Additional Information
Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) is an outdoor, international centre for modern and contemporary sculpture that sets out to challenge, inspire, inform and delight. Our stunning landscape was designed over 200 years ago as a private pleasure ground. Much thought was given to the planting of thousands of imported exotic trees, to the modelling of hills and valleys and the use of water and architectural features. Today, YSP's 500 acres of historic parkland and gardens provide a rich environment for the best examples of modern and contemporary sculpture by international artists.
Since 1977, YSP has used the landscape, vistas and heritage features to site a range of fascinating, changing exhibitions, commissions and installations. On average ten exhibitions or projects are organised each year, and over the last thirty years, hundreds of UK and international artists have exhibited in YSP's unique environment.
In 2002, YSP opened its landmark Visitor Centre with restaurant, designer craft shop, auditorium and information facilities. This was followed in 2004 with the completion of the stunning Underground Gallery one of the largest purpose-built galleries in Britain, for which YSP was nominated and finalist for the 2006 Gulbenkian Prize Museum of the Year. This beautiful gallery space nestles into the hillside of the Bothy Garden, providing three separate galleries ideal for the further display of sculpture.
Beyond the gardens and Underground gallery are rolling fields, lakes and broad countryside: all are changed dramatically by passing time and seasons. Brooding skies; bright frosty mornings, languid summer afternoons, smoky autumn mists: each evoke different sensory experience of landscape and art.
YSP brings together historic landscape, new architecture, changing open air sculpture displays, pioneering education and community work, new commissions and a vibrant programme of temporary exhibitions.
The TopLots Heritage Auction is a fundraising event organized by the Association of Independent Museums (Registered Charity: 1082215) acting as the agent for museums, historic houses and heritage organizations across the UK. Delivery of this lot, as described, to the winner is the responsibility of Yorkshire Sculpture Park who will receive 80% of the winning bid (less direct transaction and listing costs). The remaining 20% is retained by the Association of Independent Museums.
