General Collections - Behind the scenes - Single day
Description

A day with the curator, moving part of the Weald & Downland Open Air Museum’s collection of wheeled vehicles.

The award-winning Weald & Downland Open Air Museum has over 45 historic building exhibits and is designated by the Government for the outstanding importance of its collections. It is also home to over 10,000 other artefacts, many of which are wheeled vehicles and agricultural implements.

In order to conserve, display and interpret these artefacts, they often need to be moved around the Museum site. This takes very specialist curatorial skills, to ensure the safety of both artefact and operative!

The TopLots winner will spend a day with Museum Curator Julian Bell and his collections team, deciding on strategies for moving items, and executing the moves, whilst learning about their uses and histories.
